Feldenkrais group classes are known as Awareness Through Movement® and are based on a very precise study of how the nervous system learns. Many of the classes are grounded in infant development patterns, while others are subtle investigations into function, exploring questions such as how does force translate through the foot, to the pelvis and up the spine, and how does this relate to the muscles of the back, or impact breathing?

Each one of the thousands of lessons comes complete with many questions for the nervous system (and the mind) to investigate.  The goal is not toning muscles, or preparing the body for meditation.  The process of paying attention to the movement is actually more important than the movement itself.   The lessons consist of comfortable, easy movements that gradually evolve into movements of greater range and complexity.  The goal is not to stretch or strain, but to move more and more towards finding appropriate effort and redefining what is easy.
